I am writing to praise a new business in Davenport. The Quad-City Times ran an article the last week in November about a new bridal boutique opening in Davenport called Bridal Perfections. The owner and staff at Bridal Perfections are incredible. I would encourage anyone shopping for wedding and formal attire to brave downtown Davenport parking and check out this store.
I recently began to plan my wedding and had visited two bridal stores in Davenport. …After reading the article printed in the Quad-City Times, my mother and I decided to give the new store a shot. I’m so glad we did.
The staff at Bridal Perfections is talented, professional and amazingly thoughtful. They have a stunning selection of gowns that would encompass anybody’s idea of the perfect weeding dress. And although I have not yet decided on the exact dress I am doing to buy, I have made the decision that the dress will definitely come from Bridal Perfections. Again, let me encourage anyone shopping for wedding or formal dress attire to check out Bridal Perfections in downtown Davenport.

When it comes to your bridal gown: Know your dressmaker

Nada Halabi, models a custom bridal gown created by Bridal Perfections. The Davenport bridal store will be one of the many bridal shops and formal wear stores demonstrating their products during the popular modeling portion of the 2003 Bridal Expo.
The bridal gown is perhaps the single most important item in a wedding, second only to the wedding set for tradition ... it elevates the bride above the ordinary and allows her to feel extra special on that most special of days.
“The wedding dress is so important. Every bride wants to look her finest on her wedding day, and having the right dress helps them be that ‘princess’ for the day,” says Billie-Jo Brusveen, who along with business partner, Diane Benge, own and operate Bridal Perfections, Inc. a custom bridal gown and dress store in Davenport.
“It’s hard to place a value on something this important, because every bride wants the perfect dress ... something that is unique and beautiful,” Brusveen says. All too often, however, finding the perfect wedding gown can be difficult, and having the right dressmaker can make or break the final design and fit.
“We know the importance of the wedding dress and what it means to the bride, her family and the overall look of the wedding,” adds Brusveen, dress designer and patternmaker. “We have a wide variety of pattern books and dresses that the bride can look through to find the right one for her. In addition, we also make any alterations necessary to the dress to make it the bride’s own.”
According to Diane Benge, alterations specialist, it’s important to feel comfortable with your dress-maker. “We love what we do and we enjoy working with people who come to us with their hopes and dreams. We take the extra step to make sure the bride will look beautiful on her special day.” Brusveen agrees, “Every girl wants to feel like a million dollars on her wedding day, and she should. We make sure she has the right dress that will make her look and feel that way.”
One of the things that makes Bridal Perfections unique is that they are professionals that specialize in bridal, bridesmaid, bridal accessories, couture design and alterations.
“We have an extended collection of bridal gowns in stock that give people an opportunity to see what style of gown will meet their needs,” says Benge. “If someone has a dress already, but would like a more up-to-date or unique look, we can make any alterations to fulfill their need.”
“We take the extra step to make sure the gown or dress fits the bride perfectly. When the bride decides on a gown she likes, we order it or create it according to her measurements. It takes approximately three months to get in, if we order a gown. But you should really begin looking at dresses as far in advance as you can,” explains Brusveen. Bridal gowns can be ordered in sizes ranging from 2 - 30 from many of today’s popular designers. “We also offer bridal rental on our in-stock dresses,” she adds.
In addition, Bridal Perfections also specializes in bridesmaid gowns and bridal accessories. “We have over 60 styles here at the store that come in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes. Any in stock dresses can also be rented,” Brusveen says. Their complete line of bridal accessories include, headpieces, veils, shoes, jewelry and undergarments. “We have everything you need to complete your look.”
The Couture process
“Typically someone will call in and make an appointment for a one-to-one consultation. This is where we talk with them about what it is they’re looking for. They can bring photos, pictures, drawings anything that helps them convey what they want. We use these to create a sketch of couture design.
“At this time we will take measurements and give them an price estimate. Each couture bridal gown requires at least three fittings,” explains Brusveen.
Because fabric prices can be high, Brusveen says they create a muslin or mock gown. “The mock gown is created and fitted for a one-of-a-kind style. The bride then picks the fabric, beading and lace from one of our fabric books,” she adds.
When the couture dress is completed and during the final fitting, “we have a professional photographer take photos of the bride modeling her dress as a special momento.”
In addition to their line of bridal dresses, Brusveen says Bridal Perfections also caters to women’s business suits and dresses, prom dresses, cotillions and accessories. “We carry unique lines and diverse selections. We keep a well-rounded selection of dresses for all ages and events.”
